Eating Right?

Usually when you have bodily issues people ask you, are you eating right?
Personally I don’t believe that there is one way that fits all, but I definitely believe that we have a personal right or wrong way. The trick is to figure out what works for you!

I thrive on a Plantbased Vegan diet, and of course I advocate this way of living due to it’s numerous health benefits, the fact that it doesn’t hurt this planet, and that it promotes equal rights for all living beings.

I used to be very sick, and I’m still struggling with some weight issues due to some chemical unbalances, but this way of living is really helping me to balance my body and mind, and it brings my soul peace. People often ask me what I eat, so I thought I would share a picture and some recipes of what I eat.

MAIN COURSE:
A Sallad. 
This one is really simple.

1 Yellow Bell pepper diced
A bunch of lettuce
1 Avocado
1/2 Apple (I usually don’t mix fruit and veggies, but made an exception here)
1 carrot that I pealed with a potato peeler
6 cocktail tomatoes
3 inches/ 8 cm of cucumber
1 TBS Chia Seeds as a topping

DRESSING:
5 sun dried tomatoes
1 tomato
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 TBS Olive oil
Some fresh oregano and basil to taste
1 pitch of salt and pepper
Mix everything smooth in a high speed blender or food processor.

SMOOTHIE:
Sometime I add a smoothie to the meal.
This one is a delicious and filling blueberry smoothie
you’ll find the recipe here.

DESSERT:
Blueberry Pudding. Well, I was extra hungry and in the mood for blueberries this day, but you can use any berries in this recipe.

1/2 cup of buckwheat (soaked for 30 min and thoroughly rinsed)
1 TBS of coconut cream (you can make this by mixing coconut flakes in a high speed blender until they turn creamy) or use optional nut or seed butter.
1 cup of berries
1 banana
2 TBS coconut nektar or agave

Mix everything smooth in your blender. Serve with 1 TBS hemp seeds and some berries as a topping .

Turmeric, Nature’s Yellow Gold

My healing process has been long and slow at times. But I really do feel that I’m getting closer to the finish line… Especially since I started drinking smoothies and juices with turmeric.  It makes all my cells radiate and vibrate. Research shows that Turmeric is effective at treating depression, and it may even be more effective than some of the most common anti-depressant drugs currently on the market. Curcumin, a derivative of turmeric, is also known to battle cancer and inflammations. bild 3
I wanted to create a smoothie that was super healthy and still delicious. So I decided to combine turmeric with the Sea buckthorn berry.

This little berry is a real power plant. It protects your heart and makes your skin radiate. So if your looking for a smoothie that will help you stay happy, healthy and glow, look no more.

Recipe:

1 cup of filtered water

1-2 banana (depending on how much sweetness you like, I take 2)

1 cup of Sea buckthorn berries

1 inch of fresh turmeric

Mix everything together in a high speed blender and let the healing begin.

Healing and Juicing

I have had many health concerns in my life, many of them disappeared when I started to eat Vegan foods, but some, like the warm sensation in my stomach and aches in my joints have stayed with me. I eat a lot of Raw Foods and I have noticed that it helps my overall wellbeing. So, I tried to step it up a notch, and juice for 3 days to see what happens. I have done smoothie fasts many times before, but juicing is different. Juices are free from fibers, but full of vitamins, and they are easily absorbed by the body. They don’t stress the intestines and let your colon take a vacation.

Lucky me, I have a Green Star Juicer, a wonderful juicer that can juice EVERYTHING, so I threw in spinach pears and even Kiwis I’m my daily juices. I drank 3-4 Life Factory Bottles a day for 3 days and after the first day I noticed how much more energy I had. On the second day I noticed that the warm sensation in my belly was gone, and on the third day I noticed that my joints didn’t aches anymore. All this in only 3 days!!
I am convinced that this is habit that I need to implement on a regular basis in my life.
Maybe I should juice 1 day every week? or 3 days every month? I do know one thing, I will juice so help me god!

How Aqua Aerobics Can Help Relieve Stress

My friend Jenny came over the other day to visit, and she was so stressed I could not believe it. She had been running around picking out furniture for their new rec room, and had gotten herself into a frenzy. I told her to go home, get on her swim suit, and meet me at our gym. I was going to show her how to let go of some stress.

The calming effect of water. When I have a busy day and have to unwind, the first thing I do is go out to our back yard pool. Even a few minutes of walking up and down in the water can start me on the road to relaxation. I think it has to do with the soothing feeling of just being in the water. If walking doesn’t unwind me enough, I go to the deep end and tread water for a few minutes. The muscles unwind quickly, plus I feel the lightness of the water supporting me. Here are some great ideas about water workouts for stress relief:

A great cardio unwind. If I have had a really bad day, sometimes I am in the mood for a bit more vigorous unwind session. Have you ever tried Zumba? I dare you to try that sexy crazy dance class and feel stressed after you leave. If you’re not in the mood for daring, but you want a great cardio workout, aqua kick boxing can take care of that – the perky little instructors are almost daring me to try to keep up, and of course I do – try. I can never work as fast as they can, but when I leave class, my thought is “Now what was I stressing about?”

A super calming workout. I sensed that today Jenny didn’t need an energetic workout, but would benefit from some straight calm down. She met me at the gym, and we signed up for an aqua tai chi class. Jenny had never done aqua aerobics, or tai chi, so the whole thing was going to be a new experience for her. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese art which uses a series of slow, almost dance moves to relax, balance and focus. It’s actually based on a martial art, but a lot of people just use it now for a calming experience. In the water – it’s a wonderful workout, as you push through the water, moving arms and legs together in concert to step around the pool.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. I know how Jenny is – she’s a perfectionist like me. I told her she didn’t have to get the moves exactly right, but just get in the water and follow the instructor. We got in the water and began to move our arms as we stepped around in sweeping motions. The gracefulness of the teacher was impressive as I  followed her movements, letting the gentle lapping of the water absorb my thoughts. The teacher quietly emphasized that we watch our breathing, to let it match up with the motions we were performing. I got into such a flow that time seemed to fall away, and my only absorption was in doing the next sequence of steps. I was surprised when the class finished.

I think it worked. I looked over to Jenny, and she had a really funny look on her face. It was a combination of total relaxation mixed with a little surprise. “Why are we stopping?” she asked. I told her the class was over and that we had been working out for a full hour. She was amazed, and for the next several days raved about her new love for water workouts, and how much they helped her relax.

Your Stomach is not a trash can.

Most health problems are caused by our way of living. How we eat, how we move, where we live and how we feel emotionally, are all factors that determine our health condition. Even if this might be common knowledge, most people in our society treat their stomach like a trash can. How come? Well, I can only speak for myself, but I believe it’s due to a disconnection between body and mind. This discord is usually created over a longer period of time. Somewhere along this ride that we call life, we picked up a bad eating habit. Maybe we picked it up from our surroundings, or from a TV show, or maybe some of us got it from home? Somehow we lost contact with our bodies. But, the beauty about being human is that IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO CHANGE! There are many things that you can do today to restore your connection to your body. Here are 5 simple steps.

1. Start writing down what you eat every day. This will help you focus on what you put in your mouth, and in the long run help you change your patterns.

2. Try exchanging one meal a day for a big Raw Food Smoothie. Most people feel GREAT after eating a meal full of nutrients and energy, so this will help your brain to get a new reference point of how you can feel. With time you will start to crave healthier foods, because your body and mind will remember how good it felt after your “Lunch, Breakfast or Dinner” smoothie.

3. Create a weekly meal plan. This will help you to gain control over what you eat. it’s easy to treat your stomach like a trash can when you’re stressed out and don’t have time to think about what’s good for you. This way you know what you will eat every morning when you wake up.

4. Drink plenty of water. Most of us drink way too little water, here is a link to a test on how much you should drink. Did you know that drinking too little causes a great strain on our bodies, and sets us into survival mode? When you drink more water your mind becomes clearer and it’s easier to make healthy decisions.

5. Be Kind to your body. Every night before you go to sleep, thank your body for serving and carrying you through this day, and through this life. Every Morning when you wake up, ask your body what you can do to be kind to it today. Some of you might not hear a clear answer straight away, but give it some time and you will notice that you do make healthier choices and that your body is cooperating with you better.
